Jammu, Jul 08 (KNO): At the time when people are already reeling under the financial crises due to COVID-19 aftermath and steep hike in price of petroleum product, Jammu and Kashmir Milk Producers Cooperative Limited (JKMPCL) has decided to hike the price of milk by Rs 2 per litre across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir from Thursday, July 8 onwards.
The increased price of milk has been seen as another jolt to common people as rate has been increased in all three categories (Shakti, Taaza, Slim N Trim) of milk by marketed by JKMPCL’s Snowcap has been increased by Rs 2 per litre.
Manoj Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, JKMPCL said that increase in the milk prices is unavoidable due to the increased cost for packaging and transportation.
“The increase in the milk prices became necessary due to the increased cost for packaging having gone up by 30 to 40 percent, the transportation cost by 30 percent, which eventually led to the increase in the input cost,” he said.
“The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates into a 4 percent increase in MRP, which is much lower than average food inflation,” the CEO said.
He further added that the price hike in turn will benefit milk producers because as per the modus operandi of JKMPCL, almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk is passed to the milk producers—(KNO)
