Latest Weather Update For Jammu and Kashmir Mercury drops in Kashmir Valley, Gulmarg freezes at minus 10.4°C Srinagar, Jan 26 (GNS): The minimum temperature in most parts of Kashmir Valley recorded a drop with mercury settling at minus 10.4°C in tourist resort of Gulmarg, officials said here. An official of the meteorological department here told GNS that Srinagar received 3.5mm rainfall in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today while the summer capital of the J&K recorded a low of 1.3°C against last night’s 1.8°C, he said. Kashmir is presently under the grip of 40-day long harshest period of winter, known locally as ‘Chillai Kalan, which started from December 21. It is followed by a 20-day long ‘Chillai Khurd’ and a 10-day-long ‘Chilla Bachha’. Gulmarg had about 0.4mm of rainfall during the time and recorded a low of minus 10.4 °C against minus 9.2°C on previous night, he said. MeT forecasts  cloudy weather in J&K, dense fog in Jammu till Jan 29 Srinagar, Jan 25 (GNS): Weatherman on Tuesday forecast cloudy weather in J&K coupled with moderate to dense fog in plains of Jammu till January 29.    “Fair to partly cloudy weather is expected throughout J&K till January 29 with moderate to dense fog in morning hours in plains of Jammu,” an official of the meteorological department here told GNS. He said there would generally cloudy weather on January 30 and that there is possibility of light rain/snow on 31st. “Expect warmer days and colder nights till January 29th,” he said, adding, “There's no forecast of any major weather till ending January.”  Meanwhile, the official said Srinagar received traces rainfall in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today while the summer capital of the J&K recorded a low of 1.8°C against last night’s 2.8°C, he said. Weather Update Mostly dry weather is expected at most places in Jammu and Kashmir today. Light rain/snow is possible at a few places in Jammu region and Ladakh (especially in Kargil district). Except for a few places, dry weather is expected tomorrow as well. Dry spell is expected to extend till 31 Jan as no significant system will be affecting J&K this Chillai-Kalan. Covid-19: Weekly Lockdown from Friday 2 p.m. to continue: Govt Srinagar, Jan 23 (GNS): Amid surge in covid-19 cases, government on Sunday decided to continue with the 64-hour lockdown from 2 p.m. Friday in Jammu and Kashmir. In an order issued by the State Executive Committee headed by Chief Secretary Dr Arin Kumar Mehta, the government has reiterated most of the measures announced by it following the start of the 3rd covid-19 wave. “Night Curfew shall continue to remain in force in all Districts from 9 pm to 6 am with complete restriction on non-essential movement,” the order, a copy of which lies with GNS reads, adding, “There shall also be complete restriction on non-essential movement in the entire J&K from every Friday 2.00 PM to Monday 6.00 A.M.” All the offices have been asked to regulate the attendance of its employees in such a manner so as to ensure that appropriate Social Distancing Norms are maintained. “Pregnant Women Employees will be exempted from Physical attendance...

MeT Forecasts Moderate To Heavy Snowfall Till Sunday Evening Srinagar, Jan 22 (GNS): Weatherman on Saturday forecast widespread moderate to heavy rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours. “Currently, weather is overcast at most places of J&K with report of widespread light to moderate rain/snow in both Jammu & Kashmir regions,” an official of the meteorological department here told GNS. “Widespread moderate rain and snow with heavy rain and snow (mainly in South Kashmir, Pirpanjal, Banihal-Ramban-Batote axis, Reasi, Poonch, Rajouri and most places of Jammu region) is most likely during next 24 hours, starting tonight till tomorrow evening,” he said, adding, “Significant improvement in weather from January 24 onwards till January 28.” He said weather may disrupt surface transportation, like Jammu-Srinagar highway, Sinthan Top, Sadhna Top, etc. Meanwhile, Srinagar received 1.6mm rainfall in last 24 hours till 0830 hours today while the summer capital of the J&K r...

2-day wet spell in J&K from today: MeT Srinagar, Jan 21: The Meteorological Department has forecasted a two-day wet spell in Jammu and Kashmir from Saturday. In a weather update issued for J&K, the MeT said “A fresh active Western Disturbance (is) most likely to affect J&K and adjoining areas from 22nd January. Under the influence of this system, widespread rain/snow most likely to occur during 22nd and 23rd January.
